The Soundtrack
Music influenced the writing of Travelogue quite a lot. As it was mentioned in the writing process for Travelogue, the author saw the novel as a movie in his mind. It was for this reason that music was so important. Within the first week he began the novel, Tom already had Robert Plant's song, "Thru with the two step" playing during the closing movie credits at the end of the 'film'.

Working in a music shop from 1992 to 2002 really opened Tom's mind. He heard every form of music known to mankind. From Techno to Ambient, from Rock to Punk, from Orchestra to Minimalist. This enabled him to pick some really interesting and viable music that reflected the various moods and stories in Travelogue. With the first two years of the project, Tom had compiled two different 90 minute 'Travelogue' cassettes; one in April of 1997 and the other in July of 1998. This was music Tom could see and hear in the book's 'movie' soundtrack.

Now at the book's completion, Tom now has accumulated 3 CD's worth of music! The music was arranged somewhat in the order of how events happen in the book. Certain songs reflect certain chapters. Tom visualizes the 3 CD soundtrack being issued in a very economical cardboard digipack. It will be an authorized soundtrack issued by a major label. No boots!

The artists featured on the 3 CD Travelogue soundtrack will be;

Marc Almond and Andi Sex Gang, Jann Arden, The Auteurs, Baptism, The Beach Boys, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Coil, The Cure, The Dresden Dolls, Eden, Frente, Free Space Comm., The Gathering, Luke Haines, His Name is Alive, The Human League, Inspiral Carpets, I Start Counting, Joe Jackson, Chantel Kreviazuk, The Lords of Afford, Lucy Fix, Madonna, The Mission, Moby, Nocturne, Notwist, Gary Numan, The Nuns, The Pentangle, Liz Phair, Robert Plant, Psychic TV, Saliva, The Screaming Dead, Skeletal Family, Soft Cell, Starlight Mints, The Tear Garden, 39 Steps, Union Jack, The Virgin Prunes, Whigfield, White Zombie, and Wire.

The American record labels Varese Sarabande, Rykodisc and Lakeshore Entertainment have all expressed interest in the project. Time will tell who decides to take the chance on the huge task of assembling this music on a licensed CD set! If you represent a major label and think this project is for you, please drop Tom a line and he can mail a promo copy of the 3 disc set to you. 'Fun City' will have a soundtrack as well, most of these songs will be drawn from the 80's.
