Tom's Creative Writing Talks
In the spring of 2008 Tom began speaking about creative writing to students in Oxford County and area schools. The idea was suggested by Tracey Andrus when she interviewed Tom on the TV talkshow, "Daytime." Tracey was instrumental in setting up Tom's first creative writing talk. If you'd like Tom to come out to your school, or your child's school, and talk about the creative writing process, please send him a note from the e-mail link below. Tom's speaking fee is a modest $125 (Plus travel costs) for a 40 minute chat and a question & answer session. E-mail Tom Ryerson HERE.
1. April 3rd 2008 - Trinty Private School, Innerkip, ON. Tom spoke to Sandra
Hurley's Grade 7 and 8 class about the creative writing process, how to get
published, and his own experiences in creative writing. The class of
twenty-five students, aged twelve to fourteen, were quite receptive to what
Tom had to say. Tom was very impressed by the not only the attentiveness
of the students, but also of the questions they asked afterwards. Tom left a
copy of 'Castle Lake' with Sandra in hopes her class may study the book.
Tom's first experience of talking to a group this young went very well.
2.  June 1st 2011 - Holy Trinty High School, Simcoe, ON. Tom really enjoyed himself while speaking to approximately 40 Students about writing and the        creative writing process. His chat launched the newest edition of the Teens Write for Fun Contest 2011, sponsered by the Norfolk County Public Library. There were lots of questions afterwards, and Tom was interviewed by both the local radio station and newspaper. A great story followed the next day. Tom always enjoys speaking to students about writing, and the experiences he has encountered on his own journey. Thanks very much Simcoe!
